New England’s Indian Summer in Autumn is a magical time, especially in the magical salt marshes. Glorious autumn colors reflected in the trees, bushes and grasses. Magnificent orange leaves, that are so dense with color that they look like orange powder. The brightest of yellow leaves that shine on even the cloudiest of days.

the red chipmunk gathering here and there
looks like a moving fall leaf
the northern flicker hammerjacking the
ground in search of ants
and the bobin robin rustling and kicking up
the leafs
and then the blue jay flies in to find bugs on
the stags

there’s a slight break on this rainy morning
the two baby gray squirrels chase one another around
and i can hear their footsteps, quite loud
ta rump ta rump ta rump just like horses only softer
we are under a Tropical Storm Watch hmm
seems tropical
everything is wet green with shades of gold

the early robin gets the worm

robins running like roadrunners over the dewy green ground
hoping, jumping in little spurts to new digs
turning over the earth
in clumps of green and brown
looking for juicy earthworms
flying into the branches of the big maple tree as the sun begins to really shine
